2nd week of sch

wow so fast my 2nd week of sch is almost over already. only 1 more lecture on saturday and after tat, for the next 2 weeks, I will only have 2 more lectures to attend so most probably it will only be some self study and also maybe to select the topic and starting to do some research for my ob assignment since looking at the timetable, it seems like there's so much free time for me.

actually, this is one of the aspects of uni life tat i'm not really used to and rather worried abt. i had tot tat uni life (or maybe uni life in sim) would be rather similar to poly life. although i've heard frens in uni toking abt the differences, somehow i still din get it. but once i experienced it for myself, i immediately knew the differences. maybe it's got to do with the change in my mindset as well.

firstly, it was the fact tat there's no tutorial lessons, only lectures. or if there is, maybe i'm not taking any of those modules this semester. but there are tutorial questions and for some modules, solutions given which u decide for urself whether u want to try them. i dun tink any lecturers will check whether u've done them and then mark them which i believed was the case in poly if i remember correctly. so if u've got any queries abt the questions, u have to approach the lecturer urself and ask them. so for me, tat requires a lot of self-discipline which i tink i still lack in.

secondly, almost all the things i've learnt for the past 2 weeks was something new to me except maybe some of those basic things in business stats which i've seen b4.

but maybe it's actually good to have chosen this degree programme, start afresh and learn abt something new from scratch instead of going back to IT becos i assume tat my lecturers now treat us like students with no knowledge abt the area of business at all and is teaching us everything from scratch. if i had gone for an IT degree, maybe i could have chosen not to have any exemptions and start everything from scratch but logically speaking and most probably, i would have taken all the exemptions they can give me.

but the thing is i was a really lousy student in poly and so i din really learn much at tat time. and watever little tat i had learnt, after 2 years and 2 months of ns, plus the fact tat i din really read up abt and and also apply those things during ns, really becomes even lesser. and if i went for an it degree and the lecturer would assume tat i'm all fresh from poly and i shld noe all those modules tat are exempted clearly in my head which isn't really wrong as i guess it would have been really my responsibility to make sure i noe them. so although it wouldn't be impossible to still score well but i guess it will really be extremely hard as i had already built for myself a really weak foundation so i may be busy filling the "holes" in my foundation and also trying to get new knowledge.

i noe choosing this degree isn't really the easy way out cos i dun tink there's any easy way out. but maybe it's becos i have just come back to this student life and still rather motivated and excited abt it but i've actually tried out some of the tutorial questions on my own which i definitely would not have done so during poly! and also i'm tinking maybe it's possible to get at least 1 HD at the end of this semester. BUT, maybe i'm tinking too far ahead already. it really is still the 2nd week of the semester! there really is still much more hard work to be done. hope tat i won't slacken after this or if i do, maybe i can come back and read this blog entry to remind myself abt all these things tat i actually wrote abt.

1st day of sch

actually, my 1st day of sch was officially on tuesday. but then there was only a lecture for a module tat i had applied exemption for. and then i only attended half of the lecture cos after the break for the lecture, the lecturer told those of us with the exemption tat we could go as the exemption has already been approved. so effectively, i had not attended a proper lecture until today(ehhh shld be yesterday liao, as i updated this too late cos i was trying to repair my calculator)

ermmmm not really a good start for me as the lecturer was a chinese lady on a teaching visit from RMIT and i tink she was from china and her english wasn't really very good. she mispronounced a lot of the words and also has a weird slang and i tink almost everyone had difficulties trying to catch some of the things she said. but she said she only arrived in singapore this morning at 2am and din really sleep well on the plane. so i guess she din really prepare for the lecture and also was still suffering from jetlag. i hope the lecture will be better tmr.

and then another thing was tat i realise tat all the examples quoted were from australia. e.g. the associations, the standards, the companies used as an example, etc. some of the examples were the australian stock exchange, the australian accounting standards (which is now actually also following the international standards). so i was actually mildly concerned abt the fact tat i was learning abt stuff in australia when most probably i'll be trying to find a job in singapore after i graduate. but i guess it was just to learn abt how things are generally governed and i'll just have to find the singaporean equivalent of those examples to better relate it to the singapore context.

ok i better get to sleep liao or else i won't be able to have full concentration for tmr's lecture and tat's really needed to be able to catch wat the lecturer is actually saying.
